Our Design Process

STEP 1: Discovery Call & Site Visit

All projects begin with a 15-minute Discovery Call. We begin broadly, talking over your project and wish list, problem areas, and site conditions. We answer your questions and talk over how we work.

Next, in a 1-hour site visit, we’ll come to your place to see your yard in person, share ideas, take photos and video, and share how we would apply your wish list to a design for the space.

STEP 2: Concept Design

We’ll begin with a study of your site, noting important features, existing trees, drainage and traffic flow.

We overlay this with everything from your wish list to create your bubble diagram.

This gives you a sense of the scale of each new element and how you will interact with your new garden, as well as an understanding of how we will address water flow through the site.

STEP 3: Schematic Design

After the concept design is approved by you, we bring it into reality, firming up the design of each area to create a comfortably flowing and unified whole.

Initial material selections are made and we’ll provide you with a rough estimate for installation.

This phase also often includes renderings and/or elevation drawings to help you envision your new space and to ensure everything will go smoothly at install.

STEP 4: Final Design

All plant and material selections are finalized, sourced and availability confirmed.

We create an updated and formalized proposal for your project, with real pricing for the work to be completed. We do the work up front so you can count on the pricing provided before you book the installation.

STEP 5: Construction & Installation

Once everything is just right, we schedule your installation!

It’s our goal to install your project efficiently. Before we begin, we line up the crews and create a scheduled plan to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

A walkthrough at the beginning and end of your project ensures that we’ve covered all the bases to your satisfaction and nothing gets missed.

Do you already have a design?

Some of our clients already have designs completed from another source. We would love to quote installation for your project!

In this case, we will review your plans with you on site to discuss details and ask questions. We’ll follow up with a detailed installation proposal including a quote and implementation plan, and schedule availability.

Why Design / Build?

How Do I Know What to Budget?

It can be hard to figure out what your landscape project should cost. Features like patios and decks, mature plantings, custom structures, or even large planting areas can have a big impact on project costs.

We are experts at advising you how to get the most of your wish list while remaining in budget.

To help you get started, we’ve created a budget guide, filled with pictures and guidance to help you understand what it may cost to design and install the landscape of your dreams.

Please note, we have an installation minimum of $15,000. Most landscape designs cost between $2,000 - $5,000.

When we meet, we will give you a rough estimate of design time. As we go through design and quoting, we will keep you updated on any changes.

A full landscape design typically takes 2 - 4 months from start to installation day.
